Bike mechanic trainer - Townsville

UnitingCare is seeking an experienced Bike Mechanic Trainer to join our Community team, based in Townsville.

The Bike Mechanic Trainer is part of the Prison Ministry Team and is responsible for the day-to-day running of the bicycle repair workshop as part of the Social Enterprise. You will train and work with our clients to repair, maintain and sell upcycled bicycles.

This is a 6 month casual contract, working one day per week with the potential for extension.

Key responsibilities:

  • Train clients to repair bikes to a safe standard, in accordance with Bicycle maintenance and repair handbook and encourage clients in their development of self-confidence and technical skills, through training to dismantle and repair bicycles.

  • Observe and report on clients progress each week and keep account of and maintain tools and machinery in a safe and usable condition.

  • Offer advice and provide a service to the general public in regard to second hand bike repair and sales.

  • Work closely with program volunteer/s and communicate with local youth justice and UnitingCare representatives.

  • Regularly communicate and provide updates with the State Coordinator.

Your skills & experience:

  • Possession of Cert III in Cycle Repair or other relevant bike mechanic qualifications.

  • Proven experience, understanding and skills in bike repair and maintenance.

  • Hold a current Drivers Licence and a current working with Children Check Blue Card.

  • Prior experience in working in community engagement programs and/or facilitating small groups, ideally with at risk youth and young adults.

  • Demonstrated experience of engaging with people with diverse needs in the program setting with effective communication and interpersonal skills.
