Generations of Sydney-siders have bought their first bike here, and had their trusty steed brought back to life in the workshop, or simply dropped by for a coffee and highly-spirited conversation. Some even ended up buying the store - but that's a longer and equally true story...

Qualifications & experience

  • A solid background and track record in retail, including management of key brands. Bicycle experience is preferred.

  • Proven customer-facing & interpersonal skills. Hospitality experience is a keen differentiation.

  • Numeracy & commercial understanding to manage revenue and profitability.

  • Digital/computer skills: incl Excel. MC uses VEND and Hubtiger (POS).

  • Strong leadership and general management ability.

  • High levels of initiative and problem-solving skills.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Oversight and hands-on management of the retail store end-to-end, including physical space, sales, customer engagement, hire, and workshop servicing.

  • Driving retail sales to support agreed monthly revenue and profitability targets.

  • Responsibility for store and financial outcomes overall, working in partnership with Head Service Course.

  • People management, including rostering for appropriate coverage and performance.

  • Management of inventory, working with suppliers to optimise pricing and availability.

  • Maintain accurate product, customer and inventory levels in POS for effective integration with online store.

  • Developing, leveraging and maximising key vendor and brand partner relationships and strategies.

  • Aware of key industry trends, bringing intel of new products and initiatives to the wider team regularly.

  • Drive effective management of bike hire service, which may be out of hours.

  • Coordination of Pick-up and Drop-off service, which may include some hands-on involvement out of hours.

  • Proactive participation with the MC cycling community, including MC Velo member liaison, proactive reachout, and social club activities, and MC bunch rides weekly.

  • Attend events on behalf of MC, which may be out of hours.
