Design Engineer - Melbourne


Originally established in 1998, GripSport began life as a boutique specialist engineering company working exclusively in the bicycle industry. Today, the company is Australasia’s leading innovator, designer and manufacturer of bicycle carrier systems. We’re growing fast, expanding our range of Certified Australian-Made products and looking for a suitably experienced and innovative Design Engineer to join our close-knit and collaborative team as we expand further into the outdoor, adventure and leisure markets.

About the role - Overall:

As a Design Engineer at GripSport, you will be designing, developing, engineering, validating and sustaining innovative, high quality and robust products for production in our purpose-built manufacturing facility in Melbourne’s Northern suburbs.

About the role – More specifically:

You will be;

  • a key member of the Product Development Team contributing to the achievement of GripSport’s Strategic Business Plan, market initiatives, competitive advantage, and profitable growth strategy.

  • accountable for the design of new products and refinement of existing products including sustaining, testing, budget/cost analysis & improvement, value engineering, FEA analysis, standards compliance and documentation, to criteria established by the Product Development Team.

  • collaborating closely with the CEO, Sales Manager and Marketing Team to ensure market viability of designs/concepts.

  • collaborating closely with the Production Manager and factory to ensure viability of manufacture and that all prototyping, physical testing, tooling and set-up is delivered/finalised on schedule and within budget..

About you – Essential:

You will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in product design engineering, design engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering or similar.

  • 3+ years of product design and related engineering work experience

  • Proficiency in the use of Solidworks CAD software and design tools such as FMEA and GD&T

  • Thorough understanding of materials and manufacturing processes, test methods and machine/fabrication shop practices.

  • High level verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Advanced level experience with P.C.’s: Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, PowerPoint

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member and/or leader of a team

  • Authorization to work in Australia – citizenship or Permanent Residency required

  • A valid Australian driver’s license and a clean driving record

  • Demonstrable creativity and innovative thinking

  • Strong attention to detail and quality

  • Capable of managing multiple projects in a deadline driven environment

Note: The nature of this role requires you to work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time as well as safely operate tools, equipment & machinery in a workshop environment.
