Digital Communications Coordinator - Wollongong
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the international federation for cycling, will host the upcoming UCI Road World Championships in Wollongong, New South Wales (NSW) in September 2022.
The Championships is the pinnacle event in the international road cycling calendar and includes a range of men’s and women’s individual time trials, mixed team time trials and road races across age groups from junior to elite as well as a mass participation event targeting community participants.
The event was secured as part of the NSW Government’s 10 World Cups in 10 Years initiative via a strong partnership between Destination NSW, the lead NSW government agency for tourism and major events, Office of Sport, the lead NSW Government agency for sport and active recreation, Wollongong City Council and AusCycling.
Hosting this event reinforces NSW’s status as the perfect stage for international sporting events and will establish Wollongong’s position as a globally recognised cycling tourism and major event destination.
The event presents significant size, scale and complexity, and will be one of the biggest international sporting events to be hosted in NSW in the coming years. Set to be held over 8 days in September 2022, Wollongong 2022 Ltd, has been established as the Local Organising Committee (LOC) responsible for the delivery of the event.
Wollongong 2022 will operate a lean and efficient staffing structure employing a core team of major event professionals, expert cycling personnel and contractors of other essential services to ensure value for money and relevant industry expertise.
BACKGROUND TO THE ROLE
With less than a year to go until the World Championships, project initiation is well underway, and we now seek to appoint a Digital Communications Coordinator who has strong passion and experience in social media, website and digital communications to connect and engage audiences with Wollongong 2022 in the journey leading up to, during and post the event.
Reporting to the Head of Marketing & Communications, you implement a digital marketing campaign via social media, website and EDMs to actively grow and engage our audiences, taking them on the ride of this exciting global event.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Working with the Head of Marketing and Communications, you will implement a digital marketing campaign to grow audiences, engage fans and promote Wollongong and cycling
Create content (copy, graphics, video) for channels including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn
Create content for e-newsletter campaigns
Work with local creators to develop and distribute innovative content that promotes Wollongong 2022
Work with the Head of Marketing and Communications to identify opportunities to grow digital audiences
Maintain the Wollongong 2022 website ensuring content is up-to-date and accurate, publish news stories (media releases), and create new pages to support the wider marketing campaign and event delivery
Assist the Marketing and Communications team with content capture and community engagement activities
Assist with reporting throughout the campaign and at the conclusion
Please note: Due to the nature of the online environment, some out-of-hours work may be required.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
Essential experience, knowledge and skills include:
You will have a minimum 1-2 years workplace experience in a similar role or hold tertiary qualifications in communications or digital marketing/media.
You will be experienced in content creation and delivery of various mediums across a wide range of audiences including but not limited to social media content, website content and e-newsletter content.
You understand contemporary digital communication practices and principles.
You understand the cycling community and/or major event industry (highly regarded).
You have excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, adapting communication style to match the audience and the situation whilst maintaining brand integrity and cultural sensitivity.
You have the ability in analyse and evaluate digital communication data to identify opportunities for improvement.
You readily demonstrate the ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects within deadlines.
You always think proactively and can adapt to changes within a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
It is expected you will be working from our Wollongong office, unless otherwise agreed, to fulfil the requirements of the role. Flexible working options (such as working from home) are negotiable.
