Events director - Sydney
The Classics created in 2016 by Yaffa Media and Bicycling Australia is looking for a passionate, outgoing, results driven and commercially astute Events Director who wants to thrive in the sporting events sector and play a pivotal part in realising the objectives of a growth business.
As our Events Director you will be accountable for the strategic management, development, direction and growth of The Classics portfolio of cycling events. This includes accountability for event revenue, event campaign, event performance and event profitability, whilst also maintaining a high level of participant, stakeholder and team satisfaction. As an expert in the events industry, and ideally with experience in developing and delivering commercial sporting events, your awareness, knowledge and insight of the latest event trends, innovations and best practice will be critical to success, alongside your recommendations about how these factors could impact or improve both the cycling experience for rider participants and The Classics event department offering.
The role also includes a strong team management capability, involving the line management and collaboration with Ride Directors, Event Managers, Marketing Executive and Sponsorship Manager. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to be involved in the strategy, planning and implementation of all of the events within The Classics portfolio. Key Responsibilities
Take responsibility of end-to-end events for the business. This includes strategy, objectives and timelines, through to overseeing the event execution.
Identify opportunities for revenue growth which can be achieved through expansion of the event portfolio, acquisition of existing events or the addition of new features and pricing structures; research and prepare relevant event strategy and then action.
Develop, maintain and leverage strategic partner relationships with government bodies, industry bodies, clubs and corporate entities for mutual benefit.
Preparation and monitor of annual budgets as well individual event budgets.
Monitor financial performance of each event as well as identify and maximise opportunities to assist with departmental budgets.
Ensure compliance with government and state requirements e.g managing events during the current Covid pandemic.
Use your strong team management skills to support the event team to ensure targets and KPI’s are met and leverage their skills to deliver superior events for our customers.
Engage the team through leadership, influencing and coaching to ensure they are motivated, effective and happy.
Engage with and respond to target audience when necessary.
To be successful in this role Have 3+ years’ experience in a similar Events Director role.
Demonstrated experience in delivering large-scale events. Some exposure to sporting style events would be an advantage.
Must be able to demonstrate creative and innovative thinking.
Excellent senior stakeholder management experience.
Extensive knowledge of project management tools and software.
Exceptional project management skills. This includes but is not limited to planning, time management and negotiation.
Strong analytical skills.
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Extensive experience leading, managing and inspiring a team in a fast-paced environment.
You must be results oriented, dynamic, agile in approach, pragmatic, self-motivated with exceptional interpersonal, influencing and relationship skills.
