Bike workshop manager - Melbourne
Ivanhoe Cycles is looking for an experienced and motivated Workshop Manager to take the lead at our busy Heidelberg Heights Megastore workshop.
As a family-owned Australian business with a proud history in Melbourne's cycling community spanning around 40 years, we've grown from a single shopfront in Ivanhoe into three stores across Melbourne. Our Heidelberg Heights Megastore is our largest store, with an extensive range of bikes, a large showroom and a well-equipped workshop servicing a diverse range of customers and bicycles.
We're looking for someone who knows bikes inside and out and has the leadership skills to keep a busy workshop running smoothly. With multiple mechanics working across a steady flow of servicing and repair jobs, this is a hands-on leadership role that combines technical expertise, team management and day-to-day operational responsibility.
You'll take ownership of workshop operations, coordinate workloads, support your team and help maintain the high standards of workmanship and service our customers expect from Ivanhoe Cycles.
If you're an experienced bicycle mechanic who enjoys leading a team, solving problems and working in a fast-paced environment, this is an opportunity to take the next step in your career.
Key responsibilities
Lead daily workshop operations to ensure jobs are completed efficiently, safely and to a high standard.
Manage and support a team of mechanics, providing clear direction, guidance and technical assistance when needed.
Coordinate workflow and job allocation, balancing priorities, turnaround times and incoming repair work.
Oversee servicing and repairs across a broad range of bicycles, from routine maintenance and tune-ups through to complex repairs and rebuilds.
Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting support to help the team diagnose and resolve mechanical issues.
Maintain quality and safety standards, ensuring every bike is serviced and repaired with care and attention to detail.
Monitor job progress and workshop productivity, identifying issues early and keeping work moving during busy periods.
Maintain an organised, well-equipped workshop, with a focus on safe work practices and efficient use of tools and equipment.
Foster a positive team environment built on accountability, collaboration, knowledge-sharing and pride in workmanship.
Work closely with the wider store team to support a smooth experience for customers and keep workshop operations aligned with the needs of the business.
About you
You're an experienced bicycle mechanic who understands what it takes to run a busy workshop. You're confident with the technical side of the job, but just as comfortable organising people, making decisions and keeping the team focused when things get hectic.
You'll ideally bring:
Proven experience as a bicycle mechanic, with strong diagnostic, servicing and repair skills.
Previous experience managing, supervising or leading a team.
A sound understanding of a wide range of bicycle types, components and mechanical systems.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a high-volume workshop.
A calm, practical approach to problem-solving, particularly under pressure.
The confidence to make decisions, take responsibility and keep jobs moving.
Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with mechanics and other team members.
A commitment to quality workmanship, workplace safety and excellent customer service.
A proactive attitude and the ability to lead by example.
Most importantly, you're someone who takes pride in doing the job properly, supports the people around you and understands that a well-run workshop depends on both technical ability and strong leadership.
