At Good Cycles, we believe bicycles can positively impact the environment and the lives of young people who have faced barriers to employment. We are seeking an experienced mechanic / workshop lead to join our Good Bikes team.
About the Role
Your role is to provide leadership in the workshop of our CBD store and create a positive working environment through an approachable attitude to staff, young people, and customers. Your mechanical skills and workshop management will drive workshop efficiencies and create a great workplace to learn and grow.
Good Cycles is more than just a bike store, with four divisions across a range of services. All staff may be required to work in other Good Cycles locations and divisions when requested. This includes mechanical/retail work in other Good Bikes store locations, fleet bike servicing and operations for our Good Deliveries Division, Workplace Servicing and Event Activations and Micro Mobility bike servicing.
Key Responsibilities
Workshop
Manage and deliver the workshop booking/calendar structure for both online and in-store.
Conduct morning and afternoon workshop meetings
Meet and exceed KPIs set across all mechanics/workshops.
Meet monthly staff training/education targets.
Perform bike repairs, maintenance, and bicycle assembly across all of Good Cycles stores and services (primary CBD), including workplace servicing and fleet servicing
Review, structure, and implement new processes and procedures to improve workshop efficiency, customer engagement and in-store and online experiences.
Conduct rolling stock takes and manage inventory
To have strong brand knowledge and mechanical aptitude/skills
Deliver monthly reporting
Must have at least 5 years of experience employed as a Bike Mechanic (not a home mechanic)
To maintain an ongoing level of product/mechanical training, e.g. SBCU, S-tech, STU.
To work autonomously and at a high pace of quality performance and efficiency in a busy workshop environment while working as a team.
Professional communication skills
Supervise Mechanics and/or Bicycle Shop Assistants
Support the development of Good Cycles bike workshops through training, mentorship and assisting with business decision-making
Retail
Support the CBD Store Manager with leadership, supervisory and managerial responsibilities
Engage with customers, assist with product selection, and process sales transactions both in-store and online
Assist with the dispatch of online orders
Assist with transferring products from store to store
Help to ensure the store is clean and the shelves are stocked
Assist with receiving, storing, counting and distributing products to various store locations
Prepare and complete customer warranties.

Basic numeracy and intermediate/advanced literacy
Attention to detail
Education and Experience
Bicycle Retail experience - minimum 5 years preferred
Bicycle Mechanic experience- minimum 5 years preferred
Training and mentorship experience - minimum 1 year preferred
Strong knowledge of bicycles and bicycle accessories
Ability to use standard hand tools
