Bike mechanic - Bright

Since 1994, Cyclepath Bright has been the go-to independent bike shop in the heart of Victoria’s High Country — Australia’s premier riding destination.

We sell, service, repair and hire all types of bikes — mountain, road, gravel, e-bikes, racing and recreational — and we live and breathe the cycling lifestyle.  Whether it’s helping locals and visitors hit the trails or chatting about the latest tech over a post-ride coffee, our small team prides itself on expertise, service, and passion.

The role

We’re looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Bike Mechanic to join our friendly, community-focused team.

You’ll work across a range of bikes — from high-end e-MTBs and carbon road bikes to our busy hire fleet — in our well-equipped workshop.  You’ll also have the chance to talk bikes with customers, test-ride builds, and enjoy Bright’s incredible trail network right on your doorstep.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Servicing, repairing and building all types of bikes (MTB, road, rec, gravel, e-bikes, kids etc.)

  • Diagnosing issues, preparing quotes and communicating clearly with customers

  • Maintaining and repairing the rental fleet to a high standard

  • Completing general and premium services within efficient turnaround times

  • Building and assembling new bikes to showroom quality

  • Managing workshop organisation, spare part orders and records

  • Supporting sales and helping customers choose the right bike or gear

  • Working both autonomously and as part of a supportive, fun team

About you

You’re an experienced, hands-on bike mechanic who loves what you do — and the idea of living in Bright excites you.

You’ll bring:

  • 3+ years of experience in a bicycle mechanic or service tech role

  • Strong skills in modern bike tech (including e-bikes and electronic drivetrains)

  • A commitment to precision, safety and attention to detail

  • Confident customer communication and problem-solving skills

  • The ability to stay organised in a dynamic workshop environment

  • A team mindset and enthusiasm for cycling culture

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience with POS or bike-hire booking systems

  • Local trail knowledge or interest in mountain biking / racing

  • Flexibility to work weekends during busy periods

What we offer

  • Starting as a casual role with a clear pathway to full-time employment after a short trial

  • Competitive pay under the Retail Industry Award, with higher rates for experience

  • Access to specialty tools, equipment and diagnostic software

  • Ongoing in-house and industry training (including e-bike systems and new tech)

  • Staff discounts on bikes, parts and accessories

  • A genuinely supportive culture that values reliability, learning and balance

  • The chance to live and ride in one of Australia’s most iconic cycling destinations — from alpine climbs to flow trails and river rides, all minutes from the shop.

  • A chance to enjoy the most of the Bright lifestyle — ride before or after work, join local group rides, or hit the trails on your days off.
