Bicycle Mechanic - Leading Hand role with established bicycle retail store

We are seeking experienced and enthusiastic candidates for a full-time Bike Mechanic - Leading Hand role within one of Australia’s leading bike retail stores, Drift Bikes. 

Drift Bikes is located in Newcastle, NSW, a place where stellar bike trails meet the sea. For successful candidates moving from out of town for this role, we will happily discuss covering relocation costs upon completion of a three-month probationary period.

What are we looking for? 

A competent Bicycle Mechanic with 10+ years experience. We are looking for a Bike Mechanic who prides themselves on delivering exceptional service by way of quality workmanship. Our Workshop team operates a systemised, fast-paced and fun work environment. To thrive in this role, you will need to have a genuine passion for cycling and be an active rider. The successful candidate will be supported to have the ability and confidence to build, service and repair bikes efficiently and to a high standard. International applications will be considered.

About the role 

The position is Monday - Friday full-time Bike Mechanic - Leading Hand

In the role, you will be responsible for: 

  • Working efficiently on servicing new bikes, repairing bikes and building new bikes

  • Maintaining notes on all servicing and repair work

  • Working to workshop procedures

  • Providing updates to the Workshop Manager 

About your skills and experience 

To be successful in the role, you will have skills to:

  • Service suspension

  • Build wheels

  • Diagnose repairs

  • Problem solve

  • Be computer literate

  • Strong communication and customer service skills

  • Confidently interact with customers and explain repairs

  • A high level of initiative with the ability to work as part of a team

POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE:  Bike Mechanic (Full-time) 

DIRECT SUPERVISOR/MANAGER: Drift Bikes Workshop Manager 

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Working to set deadlines

  • Working efficiently on servicing new bikes, repairing bikes and building new bikes 

  • Maintaining a clean and safe environment in the workshop

  • Abiding by workplace health and safety procedures and policies 

  • Ensuring up to date product knowledge is maintained 

  • Maintaining knowledge of workshop procedures 

  • Maintaining security and practicing loss prevention strategies, ensuring appropriate procedures are followed to minimise risk

  • Other tasks as directed 

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE 

Qualifications: 

  • N/A

Experience: 

  • 10+ years’ experience in bicycle repairs and maintenance preferred. 

Skills: 

  • Basic computer skills with knowledge of POS systems 

  • Ability to take direction and work as part of a team

  • Service suspension

  • Build wheels

  • Diagnose repairs

  • Problem solving

  • Strong communication and customer service skills

  • A high level of initiative and quality workmanship
