Communications manager - Canberra

  • Part time 30-40 hours per fortnight, 2 year contract with possibility of extension

  • Hybrid working arrangements

  • An hourly rate between $45 and $48 commensurate with experience.

About us

Pedal Power ACT is the largest cycling organisation in the ACT. Our mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of our community by getting more Canberrans cycling, more often. We are a not-for-profit membership-based organisation with around 6000 members, representing the interests of Canberra bike riders. We promote the many benefits of cycling for individuals, the community and the environment. Our team comprises paid and volunteer staff who are all committed to making Canberra a more bike-friendly city.

Pedal Power offers flexible, family-friendly work arrangements including hybrid working arrangements, with some days in our city office and some days working from home. We offer four weeks annual leave plus Christmas stand down, as well as paid public holidays, and the opportunity to use Time Off In Lieu flexibly.

About you

You are a well organised person with experience in communications or event management, and you can’t wait to be responsible for managing Pedal Power’s communications!

You love to work autonomously, and are excited about starting a diverse role which supports the delivery of Canberra’s biggest cycling participation event, the Fitz’s Challenge. You want to develop and deliver Pedal Power’s community events, as well as programs to help people learn to ride.

You’re a people-person who wants to build engagement with cycling across Canberra, and you are passionate about making a positive impact on our community and environment.

Responsibilities

  • Roll out Pedal Power’s membership and event communications plans

  • Implement marketing strategies to proactively recruit new members

  • Manage external communications relationships with local media

  • Manage Pedal Power’s social media accounts, fortnightly e-newsletter and our online newsroom

  • Manage the organisation’s brand including raising profile of Pedal Power as Canberra’s leading cycling member organisation

  • Manage Pedal Power’s website

  • Manage and develop Pedal Power’s partnerships with bike-friendly businesses.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  1. Qualifications in communications, marketing, or a related field, and/or a minimum of two years’ experience working in communications or marketing.

  2. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills

  3. Demonstrated ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including media, sponsors, and event partners

  4. Ability to work constructively within a small team to achieve shared objectives

  5. Experience using social media channels.

Desirable

  1. Experience using Canva, Wordpress, MailChimp

  2. Experience working in the not for profit/community sector, and/or organisations with an advocacy role.
