AusCycling is the nation’s peak riding and cycling body, representing more than 5 million Australians who ride bikes. Formed in 2020 from 19 state, territory, and national bodies, AusCycling is responsible for programs, projects and initiatives that encompass BMX, Track, Mountain Bike, Road, Para and recreational.

We help school kids learn to ride, we stage more than 500 events each year, we nurture clubs and create pathways, and we are responsible for the training, welfare, and performance of Australia’s Olympic, Commonwealth Games and World Tour athletes.

Team Purpose               

AusCycling’s Sport Pillar oversees events and racing; coach and official education and accreditation programs; competition rules and athlete pathways program (pre-performance). 

The Events Team has responsibility for the planning, coordination, management and delivery of AusCycling events. This role aims to achieve key organisational objectives, contributing to an exceptional experience and services to members. 

 

Position Purpose         

As a member of the AusCycling Events Delivery Team, the Events Operations Coordinator is responsible for the administration requirements to plan and deliver AusCycling events, in partnership with key stakeholders/clubs and event organisers.

 

Responsibilities           

The following responsibilities are indicative requirements of the role and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all requirements.   

Working under general supervision: 

  • Lead and/or support the delivery of state level events throughout Queensland.

  • Manage event sanctioning, including coordination of the state / territory race calendar. Ensure customer facing information sources including the AusCycling website and social media channels are up-to-date at all times.

  • Provide and oversee day-to day support for event delivery partners including clubs, private organisers, suppliers and race directors to ensure events are delivered to the highest possible standard.

  • Oversee the development and administration of state series.

  • Attend and oversee the event management team at Queensland state level events. Manage the delivery of required services and ensure all aspects of the event are delivered to a high standard.

  • Attend national events held in Queensland as required and play a role in the event management team. 

  • Ensure standard operating procedures and policies for events are implemented. 

  • Recruite, train and supervise event volunteers as required.

  • Oversee the appointment of event and state appointed technical officials. 

  • Contribute to the development of the annual events operations plan and budget.

  • Manage bookings for AusCycling sessions held at Anna Meares Velodrom in conjunction with Sleeman Sports Complex.

  • Manage criterium track bookings for Albert Bishop Park.

  • Role model AusCycling organisational values, demonstrating a high standard of behaviour, including respect for, and collaboration with others at all times. 

  • Adhere to, uphold and promote the principles of AusCycling policies and operating procedures. 

  • Other duties as directed to support the overall success of AusCycling, in support of event planning and management as directed from time to time. 

 

Key Performance Indicators 

  • Consistently uphold the AusCycling organisational values. 

  • Ability to work independently and lead a team.

  • Demonstrate a whole of organisation view, and positively represent and promote the interests of AusCycling amongst colleagues, stakeholders and members. 

  • Effectively balance a high work volume of competing events, across a variety of stakeholder interests, to deliver assigned activities on time, and within budget. 

  • Ensure all safety requirements relating to participants, volunteers, spectators, and others in attendance at events are met. 

 

Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Experience 

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications highly desirable (Event Management or related field), or a commensurate level of event management experience.   

  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with a wide range of stakeholders, both internally and externally, in a professional and ethical manner. 

  • Experience/knowledge in cycling specific event delivery/coordination is desirable.

  • Past proven experience working with stakeholders, event workforce, contractors and suppliers in event environments.

  • Excellent time management, organisation and project management skills, with an ability to manage complex tasks, challenging projects and competing deadlines concurrently. 

  • Proven ability to lead and work as part of a team. 

  • Excellent computer literacy and administrative skills. 

  • Excellent record keeping, documentation, and report writing skills. 

  • Sound understanding and experience implementing work health and safety, and risk management practices. 

  • Knowledge of the sport of cycling, and an understanding of contemporary issues and opportunities for the Australian sports sector.
