Management Accountant - Melbourne

AusCycling is the nation’s peak riding and cycling body, representing more than 5 million Australians who ride bikes. Formed in 2020 from 19 state, territory, and national bodies, AusCycling is responsible for programs, projects and initiatives that encompass BMX, Track, Mountain Bike, Road, Para and recreational.

We help school kids learn to ride, we stage more than 500 events each year, we nurture clubs and create pathways, and we are responsible for the training, welfare, and performance of Australia’s Olympic, Commonwealth Games and World Tour athletes.

Team Purpose             

The Finance team enables the success of AusCycling through the delivery of high-level financial management, reporting and risk management processes and a strong, diverse commercial strategy.

 

Position Purpose       

Working as a member of the Finance Team, the Management Accountant is responsible for providing financial support to operational staff. This role will be well suited to a candidate working toward their CA/CPA qualification. 

 

Responsibilities         

The following responsibilities are indicative requirements of the role, and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all requirements.   

Working under general guidance the Management Accountant will be required to complete key finance functions for the organisation including the following: 

  • Partner with cost centre budget owners to provide commercial guidance and understand key operational issues impacting the financial results  

  • Preparation of monthly management accounts including;  

       * Preparation of updated financial forecasts (cash flow and profit & loss) 

       * Variance analysis, commentary, trend graphs and report writing 

       * Manage completion and reconciliation of event financials 

       * Preparation of month-end journals and account reconciliations including accruals, inventory and debtor management. 

       * Preparation of profit and loss statements at various levels 

  • Preparation of yearly budgets (cash flow and profit & loss) 

  • Preparation of required statutory reporting requirements, including BAS, FBT and annual accounts. 

  • Support the completion of Grant & funding acquittals 

  • Develop financial models and other tools to assist in the effectiveness of the team’s processes and financial analysis

  • Individual KPIs will be developed and reviewed annually as part of the Performance Review process 

 

Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Experience          

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce or Business (or related field) highly desirable or a commensurate level of experience would be accepted. 

  • CPA or CA qualified or currently studying (If holding tertiary qualifications) 

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with a can-do attitude, and natural ability to bring enthusiasm and positive energy to the team. 

  • Open to change, sees the opportunity presented by new ideas, flexible and accommodating in approach. 

  • Customer/member focused, able to understand other perspectives and strives to enhance and deliver an outstanding member experience.
